Saudi Desalinasi Laut Merah Solusi Pemenuhan Air
One of the whealthiest countries in the world, Saudi Arabia facing water scarcity problem.
Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Qwait were often discussing about oil on their region but what a lot of people don't realize that while oil built many of these countries, and made some of the whealthiest nation in the world, Lack of water can easily destroy them. For example in Saudi Arabia there are only two sources of water, see and deep wells (groundwater). As we know Saudi Arabia that rarely rain consume much water than other country, groundwater resources are being depleted at very fast rate, and some predictions suggest that goundwater resources may not even more than 25 years survive. In because Saudi Arabia ranks amongs the top 5 countries in the world in term water scarcity it has the made most substantial investment in a process called seawater desalination.
Now in Saudi Arabia water is taken from red sea and forced through salt separating process. Desalinated water makes up 50% of water consumed in Saudi Arabia with a population of 33 million people, now remaining 50% is pulled from groundwater.
Fact about Water Scarcity :
* 1% of Earth's Can Be Consumed
* Water scarcity effects 1 in 3 People
* 20% walk 3.5 miles a day to reach water
* 1.8 B people expected to lack water by 2025
So desalination could be the answer since 70% of surface covered in water but oly 2.5of that is fresh water. In Saudi Arabia, about 55 billion dollar investments is needed for the next years for water desalination. According to the International Energy Agency, " But this reliance on water desalination comes at significamt cost. In 2016, Desalination accounted dfor just 3% of the Middle easts water supplu but 5% of its total energy consumption
